Research 7: Benny Benassi ft. Gary Go - Cinema (Video 5)

I really like this very new song which has only recently come out. When I saw the video I did not agree with the story line, however the effects and shots that have been used really intrigued me as to how I could replicate the effect. The genre is not particularly relevant as I am looking at doing a more acoustic style song as opposed to drum and base/electronic, however I hope you see see my point as to why I have chosen to research this video once you have seen the video itself and the screen-grabs I took of it.

Editing note: In this video I have first noticed how pretty much every cut is made on a drum beat of the song, and in some parts with quick editing, on every consecutive beat. This should well be worth looking into as it seems to be a key part of the editing regarding music videos. Most of the videos that I have spoken about so far have mainly been edited with the music... on the drum beat, or with a chord change, or some alteration in sound that prompts the edit to take place. Some other videos can be edited with focus on the lyrics (like the opening to 'starry eyed', but as soon as the strong drum beat comes in it revolves more around the music again.
This is a key part to making a music video. By combining the video and audio, the audience will be more interested in watching as it is more than listening to a song and watching a video over the top which is hopefully relevant, they are as one, and it creates a better experience when watching the music video.
To put into context, nobody goes to the cinema to listen to the movie, they want to see the picture as well. The same counts for going to a live gig, and they play the music through an iPod with an empty stage.
If the video is not coordinated with the audio, the music video will not be as entertaining.

This is one of the opening shots, where the screen of an oscilloscope has been faked, and introduces the name of the song and artist. Example also do this at the beginning of their music videos so that the people watching know who the artist is before they hear the song. To create this title, the screen would have been filmed, and the text computer generated and masked in over the top.
The room this is shot in has a lot of mise en scene, which is picked up in the back ground. The depth of field in this shot is focussed on his face, where there has been some computer generated pattern produced and layered over the screen. There is also a fairly high ISO used here, which creates a fairly whited out effect. It seems to be that a blue filter has ben used throughout the video.
The shot following the last is this one, where we can see his face, as if we were the visor, so we can seethe display in front of his face. He obviously is not wearing the helmet for this shot and the background has been blacked out to make it look as if he is. The little markings over the screen have been edited in over the top. This shot was meant
This type of shot is used a lot in this video, it is there to primarily tell the story, or let the viewer know what is happening. It tends to be a match on action shot. The most impressive thing about this shot for me is the way the light has been used. We have a flare coming through the small gap between the two actors, as well as fill lighting from the left (which can be seen subtly in the reflection on the helmet's visor.
In this shot we have a POV (point of view) angle, which is evident because of the white pattern overlay which we saw earlier behind the visor. The thing that struck me most about this shot, and why I screen grabbed it was how the lighting was achieved. The whole bed must have been lit from every angle as there are no shows, even under the covers. Because of the colours used, this creates a really sharp, contrasting image.
